What to do on a Snow Day?

We live in the lower mainland. What does that mean you ask? It means when it snows everything shuts down and we stay home (many apologies to the rest of Canada who are embarrassed by how wimpy we are... it's just how we roll down here.) I suppose it is pretty silly, but I'm a home-body so I. LOVE. IT!

How did we fill our surprise days off?:

Well... we don't hate the snow entirely! The kids were pretty happy to play in it!

We did some art work. (unfortunately we did not hang said art work... that is still on the "to do" list.)

We did lots of cuddling with Luke.

We watched some "Price is Right". (This is very fun... especially when the kids start calling out their bids or telling me to go there "right now" so I can win a video camera!)

We tried some new recipes. (Thanks Mennonite Girls for knowing how to cook and sharing what you know!)

We did LOTS of mazes and coloring!

One of us did a sewing project!

And... we spent some time with this guy.

Sam likes to race as "Toad" and Maarti as "Princess Peach". They are getting to be pretty good drivers... and I am too.... Maarti gets bored quickly and then hands me her wheel midway through her race!

All in all it was a good week, except for one thing: Chickens don't take snow days!... so, Jeremy still had to go to work and he worked some l-o-n-g days. We wished he could have been home for all the fun!

Luke

... or "Lukey" as the kids call him...
He's cute...

and well loved!

Hmmm... That's Interesting

On the way to school this morning Maarti noticed something...
"Mommy, my pants have a hole in them."
{pause}
"I think that means I'm a rock star."

A Taste of Sorrow

This afternoon Maarti had a strange question for me: "Mommy, have you ever tasted sorrow?"
Me: "Yes, have you?"
Maarti: "No."

I thought that was the end of it but I was wrong...
a couple of hours later...

Maarti: "Mommy, does sorrow have sugar in it?"
Me: "No."
Maarti: "I can't have any of it cause I have a cough."

Again, I thought this was the end of it...
Again, I was wrong. Later in the afternoon she brought a little plate of toy wooden cakes into the living room where Sam and I were: "Guys, would you like to have some sorrow?"

Her favorite show right now is Because of Winn Dixie (a really cute family movie) which is where she heard the phrase. I wonder what Maarti thinks the show is about, because I think her telling of the story would be entirely different than what I would say!

Christmas 2011

We love Christmas, and even though Jeremy had the flu over Christmas this year we still enjoyed our family time.

New Jammies on Christmas Eve thanks to Papa and Grandma:

On Christmas morning we were woken up pretty early. The kids piled into our bed and we read the Christmas story and then they opened their stockings and opened gifts while the cinnamon buns baked in the oven.

Sam was happy with his gift:

Maarti was happy with her gift:

Luke could care less about his gift:

BUT... later in the day he was happy to sit in his swing while everyone else ate turkey:

Lots of good memories!
