The Life of a Stay at Home Mom

Me: "I'm so frustrated. I cleaned the house all day today and you can't even tell now."

Jeremy: "I can tell."

Me: "How?"

Jeremy: "Well, your hair is slightly messy."

Seriously Dangerous

I really should never, ever make these squares 'cause they are just too yummy, but it's a great one to make if you have a girlfriend coming over for coffee and not a lot of time to bake. The prep time is probably less than 5 minutes. Try them. (and don't blame me if you gain 10 pounds!)

PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE SQUARES

1 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
3 cups oatmeal
1 cup chocolate chips
2/4 cup peanut butter

Melt margarine, stir in brown sugar and oatmeal. Press into greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes. Melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together; spread over oatmeal. Chill approx. 1 hour.

Always Thinkin'

I was saying to Jeremy that we really needed to take Maarti to the health unit to get her weighed. Jeremy (the very loyal former employee of Home Hardware) figured it was crazy to drive across town when the hardware store is way closer and has a perfectly good nail scale. I admit it... he was right.

Baby Emma Visits

For the last couple of days we've enjoyed having our cousins, Joel and Chris, from Ireland here. Their daughter, Emma, is only ten days older than Maarti so we have been looking forward to this visit from the day she was born.

Here are the girls enjoying their first of many tea parties together:

Yes we did! Matching outfits! Since the girls will probably only see each other once every two years or so Chris and I figured we may only have a couple of opportunities to dress them the same before they protest.

More matching outfits:

Things That Make Me Feel Old!

Most of the time I don't feel old... in fact I really love being in my thirties and can hardly believe that I used to think of thirty as "so old"!! HOWEVER... Lately I have run into a few things that really do make me feel "old":

1. My high school "celebrity crush", Trevor Linden, recently retired.

2. I'm closer to my 20 year High School reunion than to my tenth.

3. My family doctor is around the same age as me.

4. The Cabbage Patch Kids are celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year.

5. The Jr. High kids I work with are closer in age to my kids than to me.

6. I nearly choke every time Jeremy and I go out for dinner and it cost's $50 because I still remember when my whole family went out and it only cost $20!

7. I've already lived through the current fashion. (And I don't like it this time around!!)

8. I haven't watched "High School Musical".

Anyway... those are a few. I'm sure the minute I hit post I'll think of many more. Can anyone relate? What makes you feel old?

It Takes Two Baby

Wow!! Hats off to my single mom friends!! I have no idea how you do it. We have once again hit flu season at our house and I don't think I could survive it alone. How on earth do you bath a baby, change the crib sheets and start a load of laundry all at the same time!?! Especially when all of that needs to happen in the middle of the night when you've just been awakened from a dead sleep! All I have to say is that I'm very thankful for my husband and do not take it for granted that he is so helpful with the kids.
In other news... before this flu hit I have to admit that I have been spending an aweful lot of time thinking about Maarti's first birthday party. I know it's still over two months away, but it is just too, too fun to plan. I think I'm going to have a ladybug theme, but I could easily be swayed to do Strawberry Shortcake. Any thoughts? I'm leaning more to ladybugs because I found the website for The Ladybug Gift Store. So adorable!! If only it was closer and I had unlimited resources!
